successfully delivered its full range of
services to a wide variety of cellular
operators around the world.
Network Design Services

Cell Planning
This allows the Operator to develop a
strategic and tactical plan to establish and
provide for the new network. It includes
analysis of coverage, end to end capacity
requirements, sites that are potentially
available, allocated frequency utilization
and other information.

|
 |
Site selection
|
 |
Final radio network design
|
 |
Verification of radio network design
|
Coverage Expansion
This provides the Operator with a plan for
expanding the coverage of the cellular
network. This plan includes information such
as equipment specification, the number of
sites, and use of frequencies and channels.
It also includes a rollout plan and a
suggested schedule and strategy for
implementing the network.

High Capacity Planning
This service provides the Operator with a
plan for expanding the capacity of the
cellular network with minimum capital
expenditure.
It provides advice on additional equipment
and features as well as the number of
additional cells needed to meet capacity
requirements. It provides an evaluation of
potential sites and the use of frequencies
and channels.
It also includes final tuning and
verification of quality. Final tuning
verifies that the solution we propose
fulfils all the Operator's high capacity
planning requirements.
 |
Building small macro-cells
|
 |
Tighter re-use of frequencies with a
Multiple Frequency Re-use (MFR) pattern
|
 |
Hot-spot micro-cells and contiguous
micro-cell layer
|
 |
Dual-band networks
|
Indoor Cell Planning

We provide operators with coverage solution
tailored for various sizes of indoor e.g.
stadium, shopping malls, high rise buildings
etc. We specialize in;
 |
Active solution (multi-operator and
multi-technology)
|
 |
Passive solution (multi-operator and
multi-technology)
|
 |
Hybrid solution (multi-operator and
multi-technology)
|
Our service comes in various models:
 |
Build & Transfer to Operators.
|
 |
Build, Operate & Manage – Operators
Lease on monthly/annual basis.
|
For build and transfer to operators, the
services we offer include:
 |
Technical Site Survey
|
 |
System design
|
 |
Implementation and Commissioning
|
 |
Tuning & Optimization
|
Core Network Design
The core network is designed from
perspectives of cost effectiveness, grade of
service, capacity, robustness and
redundancy, while allowing for future
expansion and reengineering as new services
and features are planned. We provide
services such as:
 |
Network architecture
|
 |
Network element design and dimensioning
|
 |
Circuit switched and packet based
transport network design and dimensioning design
|
 |
IN systems design and dimensioning
|
Network Thinning
Network thinning (removing cell sites from a
wireless network) helps carriers move their
network from 2G to 2.5G and 3G onwards
amongst other benefits. In order to realize
the efficiencies gained from combining
networks and deploying new technologies, the
merged networks need to be optimized to
serve the existing customer base with equal
or better service supported by fewer cell
sites.

PNN’s Network Thinning services help maximize
site utilization and optimization in a network.
By achieving networks with a reduced number of
sites and ensuring the network performance,
operators realize monetary savings on leasing
cost reduce operational expenditure and ensure
efficient management of the network on all
technologies.
Network Optimization Services
Having rolled out and commissioned the network,
ongoing optimisation is required as the network
grows and voice and data traffic increases. New
network features can be enabled to enhance
capacity and quality of the installed network.

To help the Operator maximise the return on its
infrastructure investments, PNN offers Network
Optimisation Services.

Core Network Improvement

Radio Network Audit
This desktop review service focuses on
network analysis for a fast status check of
the network performance. It compares the
Operator's network performance indicators
with an industrial average and provides a
benchmark indicator. The review can be
adapted to include all network elements,
transmission links and air interface
performance, or focus in on only one
particular domain. The service produces a
detailed report highlighting areas of the
network where improvements in quality and
capacity are possible.
Radio Network Improvement
This is a service for advanced on-site
detailed investigation of the radio network
for cellular users. It is designed to allow
the Operator to offer an optimised quality
service to its subscribers and to get the
most efficient use out of the various radio
network features and elements of the
cellular network.
We provide a detailed report that covers the
performance of the radio network, a summary
of the tuning activities, and our
recommendations on how the Operator can
improve its service in the short to medium
term.
Radio Network Benchmarking
This service is offered to commercial
wireless telecommunications operators who
desire to track their perceived network
quality relative to other competitors in the
same operating environment. This is carried
out through network drive-testing in the
area of interest as well as customer
experience surveys.
Advanced post-processing tools are used for
data gathering and analysis.
Core Network Audit
This service performs health check on core
network infrastructure. Signaling systems,
voice and data traffic interfaces, and
network elements are checked for capacity
headroom or shortfall for given traffic
needs. Processor load and I/O systems of
critical switches are checked for correct
run time operation capability. Risk of
congestion and potential bottlenecks in
network elements or transport links are
identified and remedial action recommended.
State of the art modeling tools are utilized
to provide traffic trends and early impact
assessment of proposed network
reconfigurations or enhancements. Traffic
and network data is extracted from the
network elements and analyzed and an audit
report is prepared highlighting all aspects
of the network indicating its health status.
Core Network Improvement
This service takes the core network audit a
step further and executes the remedial
actions required to make the core network
more robust, less congested and more
efficient in its utilization of the
installed infrastructure. The network is
benchmarked against best in class industry
standards in terms of its performance in
service availability, capacity, quality,
robustness, and cost of operation.
Traffic and network data is extracted in the
same manner as the network audit, but with
the remedial actions being implemented to
deliver to new improvements to achieve best
in class performance.
Network Management
The network management services suite covers
all aspects of operating and maintaining a
cellular network including:
 |
Data (re)configuration
|
 |
Integration of new network elements for
expansion |
 |
Re-engineering, expansions
|
 |
Network interconnects
|
 |
Fault alarm management, fault
localization and troubleshooting
|
 |
System upgrades and enhancements
|
 |
System upgrades and enhancements
|
The service is normally centralized at the
operators network operation centre and also
includes site maintenance teams who continuously
monitor and maintain all cellular sites
throughout the network.
Experienced Network Operation engineers are
provided to execute the critical functions of
network management and also provide advice and
guidance to the operator on achieving best in
class streamlined processes ensuring maximum
performance of the entire network.
Competence Transfer and Consultancy
For operators wishing to train personnel in all
aspects of network planning, implementation,
operation and maintenance, PNN offers guidance
on how this may be achieved in the fastest and
most cost effective manner. Training needs
analysis are initiated for the operator’s
network engineering personnel where specific and
focused theoretical and practical training
programs are identified to meet necessary
competence requirements in running an efficient
and high quality network.
Ongoing network consultancy and support is also
available to the operator to assist in
maintaining a finely tuned network management
organization and provide guidance in managing
the evolution of the network.
